The Port of Barcelona faces the challenges of the 21st century with a logistic policy oriented toward the customers and with an offer of specialised and integrative services, in order to benefit the increase of competitiveness and international projection of importers and exporters.

The new economy establishes logistics regions having in mind the commercial flows generated. Due to this, besides providing infrastructures Ports have to establish alliances and participations with other external operators and other ports as well and that is the main reason for commercial missions as means of external promotion of the Port of Barcelona.

Our previous experiences in Argentina, Tunisia, China, Morocco, Mexico, Turkey, India, Brazil and, recently in North Africa (Morocco '08, Algeria '08 and Egypt '09) have encouraged us to follow along the same path. This is why the Port of Barcelona, throughout all the Commercial Missions since 1998, has been acting as a springboard to introduce and consolidate the presence of Barcelona's Port Logistics Community and its import and export companies in strategic foreign markets.

These are meeting opportunities for businessmen and institutions where they exchange experiences and bilateral contacts to increase promotion and commercial relations, detect new business opportunities and establish strategic alliances.

These initiatives are an example of the role of our port as a catalyser for international trade, since they have allowed the positioning of the logistic and port community and have meant for many of the participant companies the very first contact with these foreign markets.
